When My Own Business Pranked Me on April Fool’s Day

When My Own Business Pranked Me on April Fool’s Day

I always thought I had control over Brielle Cosmetics' social media.... until 1st April 2025. This year, I got pranked in the most unexpected way.. by my own business page.

I was just scrolling, minding my business when I saw it. My own brand and  marketing manager had betrayed me. At first, I froze. I had to blink a few times to make sure I was seeing correctly. Was this real? Did Brielle Cosmetics just announce Jollof, Tuo Zaafi and Fufu flavored lip oils? My heart dropped.

Panic set in. The confusion was real. How did this happen? When did this happen? And most importantly why didn't my marketing manager tell me?

I immediately went to the comments, and that's when I really lost it.

One person said, "Is @_gaabrieellee aware of this?" And honestly, I wasn't. Not until it was too late. Some were geuinely excited : "Jollof lip oil?? Take my money!” Others were skeptical: “So… will the Fufu one smell like soup?”  And then there were the realists: “I know this is an April Fool’s joke, but if it was real, I’d actually try it.”

Once I realized what had happened, I had no choice but to laugh. The execution was flawless, the reactions were priceless, and the whole thing turned into an unexpectedly fun conversation. People were actually suggesting real food-inspired beauty products, and for a split second, I almost considered it.

When my mom’s friend sent me this, I knew the prank had worked too well.

She was genuinely trying to figure out if Jollof lip oil was a genius marketing move or just chaos. And when she said, “Who wants to smell like Tuo Zaafi?”—I lost it. The best part? By the end, she was praising the creativity. So, lesson learned: next year, i'm keeping a very close eye on my team before 1st April, because clearly no one is safe.

It’s moments like this that remind me how much fun Brielle Cosmetics has brought into people’s lives—not just through beauty, but through unexpected moments of joy. Also, now I know people are keeping a close eye on our launches… so we might just have to keep y’all on your toes next April too!

And no, Brielle Cosmetics is NOT launching any local food-flavored lip oil… at least not anytime soon.
